Our Foundations

Living Flame is a New Zealand, family owned business that’s been passionate about creating luxury, custom-made gas fireplaces for over 35 years.  All Living Flame products are crafted in New Zealand by our highly skilled artisans, either by hand, or with the use of specialised, modern machinery.    Every product is manufactured in the Living Flame factory in Auckland, using only the best quality materials that will stand the test of time.  As a family business, we have a unique focus on the customer, where our knowledge, experience and cutting-edge equipment enable us to bring your ideas and designs to fruition.

With a solid background in the heating industry, Stan Jones established Living Flame in 1982.  His son Paul joined the business in 1997, and during the school holidays you’re likely to find Paul’s son Kingston there too.

In the company’s fledgling years, Stan installed baking kilns at The Ford Motor Co. factory in Wiri, boilers at Kraft Foods factories, and played an integral part in designing and installing the heating systems for the first Hot Houses in New Zealand.  With industrial expertise, Living Flame’s innovation and cutting-edge designs meant that more and more residential heating applications were sought after; so much so that in 1983 the company became the first gas fireplace manufacturer in New Zealand.

We’re passionate people

Living Flame prides itself on its loyal and experienced staff, many of whom have been essential to Living Flame’s growth and development.  It’s these experienced workers and quality craftsmen that sees Living Flame produce pioneering products that many competitors strive to imitate.  However, it’s the people who work here and the focus we put on our customers that truly sets Living Flame apart from the rest.

On a daily basis you are likely to see Paul working on the factory floor alongside Joe and Shane, who have been with us for 27 and 25 years respectively; ensuring their passion for quality design and manufacturing is riveted into every fireplace. That unparalleled  knowledge helps solve some of the most difficult issues involved with fireplace design and installation.

Everyone plays an integral part here, like Glen who tirelessly travels the country, to meet people, fix fires, inspect new installations and to train gas fitters. For him, every home is different, as is every client, and that’s what keeps it interesting.

If you have ever bought one of our fireplaces, chances are you would have met Paul or Monique Fenton who met and married while working with us. Together, their combined knowledge is now more than 40 years with Living Flame.

You may have even met Nigel, one of our finest Service Men, who would go from home to home maintaining beautiful fireplaces, until complications with surgery confined him to a wheelchair. Nigel still works in our factory and is an important part of the Living Flame team today.

With so many staff committed to providing great fireplace and customer service over many years, it’s no wonder our customers keep returning with new projects.

Our customer experiences

"We would just like to express our thanks for the exceptional service we have received from the team at Living Flame. From the outset we received professional, informative advice which enabled our selection of one of your fireplaces extremely easy. We have just had the fireplace installed and were very happy to receive a "once over" safety inspection of the unit once it was installed. Your customer service is second to none, your staff friendly and helpful and the product itself is both beautiful and efficient. We can't praise your company enough, and were even offered a refund of the excess flue requirements that we had originally pruchased... Thank you again for superior service and an all round great experience, and we will actively promote Living Flame products to all of our friends. Keep up the good work."
